Trailer For Fantastic Fest PSYCHO Doc 78/52 Breaks Down Hitchcock

Obsessive attention to genre movie detail is the name of this documentary's game.

By all accounts, 78/52 is terrific. A cinephile documentary of the highest order, the doc finds Alexandre O. Phillippe dissecting the iconic Marion Crane shower sequence from Psycho, frame by frame.

Phillippe’s doc combines detailed academic film analysis with critic, artist and fan interviews featuring such luminaries as Guillermo del Toro, Eli Roth, Jamie Lee Curtis, Peter Bogdonavich and Bret Easton Ellis. Now there’s a trailer for the IFC Midnight title, and it’s making us all hot and bothered to see the movie at Fantastic Fest in a few weeks.

Check it out:

78/52 refers to the 78 camera set ups and 52 cuts contained within the single set piece, which took one of the film’s four production weeks to complete. It’s the type of obsessive attention to craft detail Alfred Hitchcock was known for, and Phillippe’s non-fiction foray into the suspense master’s process is sure to be a big hit with genre movie geeks.

Beyond Fantastic Fest, 78/52 hits VOD and limited theaters Friday, October 13th.
