Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ DESTINY 2 Trailer Does It For The Puppies

Two minutes of space magic from the KONG: SKULL ISLAND director.

Destiny 2 launches on September 6th, and to be completely honest with you, I'm a little terrified. I'm in the middle of a big freelance job, I'm moving countries in a few weeks, and the last thing I need right now is a sequel to Destiny, the most life-taking, life-giving video game there is. I've probably logged hundreds of hours into the first game, and Destiny 2 appears to be - in classic Destiny fashion, for those in the know - more of the same, only a bit better.

So close is the release that Activision has dropped a launch trailer, directed by none other than Jordan Vogt-Roberts, whose Kong: Skull Island was littered with video game in-jokes, and whose next film project is an adaptation of the cinematic, strange Metal Gear Solid series. It's made up of a brief dialogue scene, featuring Nathan Fillion's wise-crackin' robot Cayde-6 and a bunch of exploding objects, followed by a lengthy montage of money shots:

All very bright and splashy; all very Destiny. For newcomers, the trailer demonstrates just how colourful the game's space-magic is, while for veterans, it hits upon the teamwork, funky designs, and weird, almost self-deprecating sense of humour that have come to define the franchise. It also sets out the game's story, which - in a reversal of the first game's impenetrable, often nonsensical lore - is as simple as "big bad dude comin' to get us." Whether that's a positive change, we'll have to wait to see.

Destiny 2 launches on September 6th. Lord have mercy.
