Today Disney released a statement regarding the status of Star Wars: Episode IX - specifically, its brand-new status as a film without a director:
Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.
Those gatdamn creative differences strike again!
BMD seems to recall a very similar statement when Phil Lord and Chris Miller skedaddled from the Han Solo film earlier this year. We also recall that a whole lot more detail - of the less amicable variety - came soon after that announcement. It seems prudent to wait for that wave before pontificating too hard here and now.
Will this repeating history once again repeat, er, history? Stay tuned.
