Finally, That ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST Prequel You Asked For

Ryan Murphy teams up with Sarah Paulson and Netflix.

You know, as far as TV prequels to classic movies go, a Nurse Ratched origin story on Netflix was the last thing I expected, but I'm kind of, sort of okay with it. Then again, the only season of American Horror Story I've seen is AHS: Juice (better known as The People v. O.J. Simpson), so that's probably where my pro-Ryan Murphy bias comes from.

The folks at Variety have the scoop, so thank or yell at them accordingly. They report that American actress Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story, American Crime Story, American Gothic) will take the baton from Louise Fletcher as the lead in Ratched, a series that in all likelihood is about a regular lady who learned to hate mentally ill people or something. It's set in 1947, a full sixteen years before the film, and it turns out One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest producer Michael Douglas is on board, as is The Saul Zaentz Company, who controls the rights to the original film. Oh, and Paulson's also going to produce this thing as well, for what it's worth.

Taken just as a role on paper, this is a great part for Sarah Paulson. Everything else remains to be seen (maybe this'll double as a "Chief” Bromden origin where we learn his name), but I guess we'll know once this thing airs, or streams, or however you say it nowdays.

Ratched already has a two season, 18-episode order, the first of which begins filming next summer with Murphy as director. Strap in.
