Mondo’s 35th Anniversary E.T. Poster Is Out Of This World

In which Mondo and Jonathan Burton knock it out of the park and straight into space.

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year with a brand-new Blu-ray, and Mondo weren’t going to let the date pass without honoring the story of a boy helping his magical, new alien buddy.

Jonathan Burton has done a fantastic job reproducing some of the classic elements of Steven Spielberg's fanciful and heart-warming 1980s creation, and had the following to say about his rendering of film’s friendliest alien:

"I didn’t want to shy away from showing E.T. as a major element of the poster as he’s so iconic but also because I welcomed the challenge of drawing a creature so fascinatingly odd. The character is a great design of unthreatening strangeness and this balance is tricky to capture. His pointing finger is an obvious tribute to the original poster though I like how we have it leading to his home, and with the special spot varnish we only get a glimpse of his solar system within the right light.

Oh how I crave the BMX of my youth."

Now let’s take a look at what he’s got for us:

Mondo will have the regular version of the poster available at a random time tomorrow (September 12th) on their website, or you can keep track of the drop via their Twitter feed. BUT there will also be a variant version only available next week at Thought Bubble, so be sure to stop by their booth if you happen to be in the UK at that time.

Just gotta say, though: I’m really digging that solar system watermark. Tell us your favorite element - or favorite memory of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial - in the comments below!
