The first trailer for Guillermo Del Toro's The Shape Of Water traded on a fairy tale feel, a tone that fell somewhere between "whimsical" and "melancholy". The film's latest trailer - which, as it says right up there in the headline, is a red-band trailer - has an all new flavor.
And lemme tell ya: it's thrilling.
From the new creature shots (which reveal that the monster at the heart of Del Toro's latest is a bit less Abe Sapien-ish than some of us initially thought!) to the footage of a rampaging Michael Shannon to the pulse-pounding soundtrack, this new Shape Of Water trailer is absolutely killer. Also, who doesn't love evil government stooges being sworn at in sign language? That's one of our favorite things!
Here's an official plot synopsis, in case you're only just now catching up:
"From master story teller, Guillermo del Toro, comes THE SHAPE OF WATER – an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment."
We cannot wait to see this movie. Luckily, we won't have to wait much longer: The Shape Of Water arrives on December 8th.
