“All my films come from the part of myself I can’t articulate.”
At this point, calling Steven Spielberg a great director seems like an understatement, as he’s arguably the greatest American filmmaker of his (or any) generation. Jaws, ET, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan; his list of masterpieces is longer than some filmmakers’ entire filmographies, and the impact he’s had on pop cinema is immeasurable.
Now, HBO is celebrating the auteur’s life and works by releasing Susan Lacy’s 2.5-hour documentary, Spielberg, which combines footage from his films with interviews culled from over 30 hours of talks with superstars such as Martin Scorsese, Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Brian De Palma, Robert Zemeckis, and many, many more.
Take a look at the first trailer:
Spielberg premieres on HBO October 7, and will undoubtedly be a must see for cinephiles everywhere. We’ll certainly have a review for you here on BMD.
