Harmony Korine (Spring Breakers) is a total madman - unconventional in both his methods for crafting and promoting movies. For his latest - the NEON / VICE Matthew McConaughey/Snoop Dogg-starring stoner comedy The Beach Bum - Korine is hoping you'll be able to inhale as you watch the Key West shenanigans unfold.
In an interview with Telerama, Korine's outlined his plan for certain theaters to give you a contact buzz while you munch on your popcorn:
"It's a comedy with Matthew McConaughey and Snoop Dogg, about somewhat depressive marijuana smokers, in the spirit of Cheech & Chong...I would very much like to have the film, when it's released, be shown in rooms that spread curls of marijuana [smoke]. It is possible in some states, such as California, that have legalized this drug for [medical use]. We already have thirty rooms that have accepted."
Say word? I don't know about you, but I'd pay a little extra money to get my ass to a state to enjoy this odd theatrical experience. Korine's picture is reportedly set to start shooting this fall, with a 2018 release date eyed. Here's hoping a few more states push through legalization laws to make this endeavor a little easier for the stoner cinephiles in your life.
