According to The Wrap, actor Mark Strong has entered into talks to play the villainous Dr. Sivana in New Line's forthcoming Shazam film (which we recently learned would be headlined by, uh, Zachary Levi). The Wrap goes on to explain that Dr. Sivana is a frequent nemesis of Shazam, and was once ranked the 82nd comic book villain of all time by IGN!
So, what's Sivana's deal? Well, apparently he's a once-respected scientist who turned to the world of magic after failing to cure his family of an unknown disease. Dr. Sivana's journey into those magical realms hit a snag when - upon opening what he believed to be the tomb of Black Adam - he was shot right in the face with a bolt of lightning. The upside, of course, is that getting hit in the face with lightning allows you to "see" magic, so...not too shabby!
If all goes according to plan, this will be Strong's second go at playing a DC villain, following his work as Sinestro in 2011's Green Lantern, a film you continually forget about until some asshole brings it back to your attention. Sorry about that.
As you know, Shazam is being directed by Annabelle: Creation's David Sandberg and will likely hit theaters some time in 2019. Y'all excited about this one or what?
