The second season of AMERICAN CRIME STORY is delivering more '90s tragedy.

The first season of Ryan Murphy's American Crime Story grabbed the zeitgeist by the throat in 2017 and never let go, becoming one of two superlative pieces of entertainment that focused on the rise and murderous fall of OJ Simpson. For his follow-up, Murphy has put the previously planned fictional exploration of Hurricane Katrina on hold, in favor of documenting the last days of doomed fashion icon Gianni Versace.

The teaser for The Assassination of Gianni Versace has arrived, and provides an ominous tone, along with plenty of eye-popping color.

Take a look:

Starring Edgar Ramirez as the titular designer, The Assassination of Gianni Versace chronicles Versace's shooting outside his home on July 15, 1997, which was part of a spree-killing by Andrew Cunanan. The season will track Cunanan’s crimes leading up to the murder of Versace and beyond. Ramirez is one hell of an actor, and this could be a solid starring role for him. Penelope Cruz plays his sister, Donatella Versace, while Ricky Martin (yes, that one) portrays his partner, Antonio D’Amico.

This second season of American Crime Story will premiere on FX January 17, 2017. While Murphy continues to produce and directed the pilot, sadly missing from this new round's creative team are the writing duo Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski, who were integral to The People v. OJ Simpson's success. Hopefully, The Assassination of Gianni Versace can be just as good without them.
