Look, we love J.K. Simmons in just about anything, so the thought of getting two Simmons for the price of one is a pretty intriguing proposition.
The new Starz series Counterpart is centered around Howard Silk (Simmons), a lowly cog in the bureaucratic machinery of a Berlin-based United Nations spy agency. When Howard discovers that his organization safeguards the secret of crossing into a parallel dimension, he is thrust into a shadow world of intrigue, danger, and double-crosses…where the only man he can trust is his near-identical counterpart from this parallel world. Judging from the show's first trailer, it promises to be chock full of surreal spy action, the likes of which we haven't seen since Chris Nolan's Inception.
Take a look:
Created, written, and executive produced by Justin Marks (The Jungle Book), Counterpart is executive produced by Marks, Gary Gilbert and Jordan Horowitz (La La Land), Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game), Keith Redmon (The Revenant), and Bard Dorros (Spotlight). The Starz series is also set to feature Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense), Harry Lloyd (The Theory of Everything), Nicholas Pinnock (Captain America: The First Avenger), and the pilot is directed by Academy Award nominee Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game).
All in all, this looks like a pretty cool ride, so you can count us in for at least the first 10 episodes of the Starz series, which premieres January 21, 2018.
