According to The Hollywood Reporter, David F. Sandberg's Shazam! has officially found its Billy Batson, otherwise known as "the little boy who yells 'Shazam!' and then turns into Captain Marvel, or whatever they're calling Captain Marvel in this movie thanks to the fact that Marvel already has a Captain Marvel movie in development and they don't want to confuse anyone".
"Asher Angel, one of the leads on Disney Channel’s Andi Mack, has snagged the role of Billy Batson opposite Zachary Levi in New Line’s DC superhero movie Shazam!"
Yes, Asher Angel IS Billy Batson, the little boy who can transform into a mighty superhero just by yelling the word "Shazam!" He joins the already-cast Zachary Levi (onboard to play said superhero), as well as Mark Strong, who we learned last week is in the process of locking down the role of Shazam!'s villain, Dr. Sivana.
Shazam! seems to be coming together very quickly, with production starting early next year, so we've probably got a few more casting updates to look forward to over the next few weeks. Stay tuned for those as they roll in.
