Regardless of how much you "hated" the second season of True Detective, its third installment keeps improving with each creative announcement.
Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) is set to headline. Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room) has signed to helm episodes alongside series creator Nic Pizzolatto. David Milch (Deadwood) is writing at least one episode of this third crime story.
Now, Carmen Ejogo (Selma, Alien: Covenant) has joined Pizzolatto's latest round of grisly sleuthing. She'll play an Arkansas schoolteacher connected to two missing children in 1980. Ali plays Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas. Season three tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.
Though it was seen by many as a disappointment, it seems as if Pizzolatto learned his lesson from season two, as this newest entry into the anthology series has taken its time to develop, adding talent that are all equally exciting. Here's hoping these new episodes deliver on all this promise.
