Sverrir Gudnason Gets Caught With THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB

He does NOT look like James Bond.

We're getting Fede Alvarez's Millennium franchise reboot - The Girl In the Spider's Web - whether we like it or not (thank God Steven Knight co-penned the script for this installment). Now, Sverrir Gudnason will play the role of Mikael Blomquist in Alvarez's sequel to David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Yes, the same role once occupied by James Bond.

Gudnason got pretty solid reviews out of fests for his turn as tennis star Bjorn Borg in Borg/McEnroe. He's joining a cast that already includes Claire Foy (The Crown) as the new Lisbeth Salander, Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049), and Claes Bang (The Square). That's actually a pretty intriguing cast, moving away from the star power that populated Fincher's turn at bat.

Does Alvarez's sequel have an actual shot at being good? This ensemble and the screenwriter are certainly earning some goodwill. Let's just hope Fede keeps his pervier tendencies at bay, and plays this mystery a touch more subtler than, say, anything on his resume thus far.

The Girl In the Spider's Web kicks off production next month, and will be released October 19th, 2018.
