First Photos From X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX Are Fire

Like, literally. There are flames here.

“Pride is starting to get the better of him, and he is pushing the X-Men to more extreme missions."

That's what director Simon Kinberg has to say about Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) in his upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix film. Taking place place ten years after X-Men: Apocalypse - a movie we've all pretty much forgotten about at this point - 1992 is where we pick up with the mutants on this go 'round. Now, the X-Men are national heroes instead of secret pariahs, and they have to grapple with their newfound spotlight.

This all comes from the cover story of Entertainment Weekly's upcoming issue, which also finds McAvoy calling Dark Phoenix: "the most emotional X-Men we’ve done and the most pathos-driven. There’s a lot of sacrifice and a lot of suffering.” That suffering is almost certainly going to come at the hands of Jessica Chastain's villain - Lilandra, Empress of the Shi’ar Empire.

But let's get real, you're here to check out these photos. Here's the cover (with dat fire Sophie Turner as Jean Grey):

And here are a few more character-centric shots:

Head over to EW to see/read more. We've still got a while to wait for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which isn't set to open until November 2, 2018.
