Maybe it’s just me, but I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that X-Men: Dark Phoenix is even happening. Not that these movies don’t make money, but Apocalypse felt like all the air rushing out of a series that was never all the great to begin with. When I think of this Dark Phoenix thing, it almost strikes me as a DTV movie.
But it’s not, dammit. It’s a full-fledged tentpole with all the actors we’ve come to expect from an X-Men film. And it’s not a Bryan Singer film, so maybe there’s hope Simon Kinberg can inject some new life into the series. I’m not being a smartass either. This one has space adventure! And a Skull! It could really be something different.
All that is to say, Empire released an interesting photo of Michael Fassbender's Magneto getting his ass kicked. Whether he spends the whole movie with a kicked ass, or eventually gets up and kicks asses of his own remains to be seen. I'm not sure if continuity dictates he must live long enough to grow into Ian McKellen anymore, so all ass-kicking bets could be off. Check out the pic:
X-Men: Dark Phoenix comes out November 2018.
