Full Length Trailer For PATRICK MELROSE Is Here To Collect Its Father’s Corpse

Benedict Cumberbatch will drink all your booze while still being super handsome.

I've never read the Patrick Melrose novels upon which Showtime's upcoming Limited Series is based, but the concept - each of its five episodes adapts one of the five books - strikes me as rather ambitious. Take a look at the official synopsis for the show:

Based on the acclaimed Patrick Melrose series of novels written by Edward St. Aubyn and adapted by BAFTA award nominee David Nicholls (Far From the Madding Crowd, One Day), Melrose gleefully skewers the British upper class as it tracks the titular character's harrowing odyssey from a deeply traumatic childhood, through adult substance abuse and ultimately, towards recovery and redemption.

Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, Sherlock) plays Patrick Melrose, an aristocratic and outrageously funny playboy, who struggles to overcome the damage inflicted by an abusive father and a mother who tacitly condoned the behaviour. A true television saga, Melrose is both gripping and humorous, with a dramatic sweep that encompasses the South of France in the 1960s, debauched 1980s New York and sober Britain in the early 2000s. Melrose will devote an hour to each of the five novels, with each episode storytelling a few complicated and intense days in Patricks life.

To follow up on the teaser Evan dropped on you last week, Showtime now has a full trailer for the event, which features full-tilt Cumberbatch. Take a look:

Cumberbatch playing a complete cad looks totally delightful, and it'll be nice to see him chew on all the complex emotions presented in this trailer. Add on the fact that Patrick Melrose sports a cast featuring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hugo Weaving, Blythe Danner, and Allison Williams, and the mini-series becomes downright unmissable.

Patrick Melrose hits Showtime later in 2018.
