There's a new theme emerging via a recent batch of mini-series headed your way that questions the competency of the United States government. While I'm still under embargo and unable to give you a full reaction, Waco - the Paramount Network's six-part Limited Event that airs in two weeks - examines the massacre of David Koresh and the Branch Davidians by the FBI and ATF as an act of pure terrorism, perpetrated by publicity-hungry US agencies that were being increasingly militarized for combat. It's pretty scary, potent, empathetic stuff.
Now, it looks like The Looming Tower - Hulu's upcoming ten-part adaptation of Lawrence Wright's investigation into the events leading up to the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks in 2001 - is also questioning the capacity of America's leaders in the face of potential tragedy.
Take a look at the full trailer, which sells a rather riveting thriller:
Like Waco, the conflict between two organizations - the CIA and FBI (as opposed to the ATF and FBI) - allegedly weakened America against the potential threat of Osama Bin Laden and his legion of true believers. This possibly contributed to 9/11 taking the lives of thousands of innocent Americans.
Starring Jeff Daniels, Michael Stuhlbarg, Alec Baldwin, and Peter Sarsgaard, there's one hell of a cast put in place to tell this story. Here's hoping Hulu's Limited Series is as engrossing as what this trailer's selling.
We'll all find out February 28th.
