Scoot McNairy Just Joined TRUE DETECTIVE Season Three

This cast just keeps getting better and better.

So far, everything we've heard about the third season of HBO's True Detective has been encouraging, from the hiring of director Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room) to the excellent cast (including Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo and Stephen "The Dorffman" Dorff) to the appropriately ominous plot synopsis (something about a macabre crime in heart of the Ozarks). True Detective's middling second season may have cost the show some fans, but this time around they really seem to be taking their time and making all the right choices.

Case in point:

"Scoot McNairy has been cast opposite Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo and Stephen Dorff in the third season of Nic Pizzolatto’s HBO crime anthology series True Detective."

That's Deadline breaking the news that noted "That Guy" Scoot McNairy has joined the True Detective cast, and we couldn't be happier about it. As history has shown, virtually anything can be improved via the inclusion of Scoot McNairy (notable exception: Batman V. Superman), so we're all about this.

There's nothing further to report on McNairy's role in the series, but Deadline does go a step further in its plot synopsis, noting that season three's mystery will play out across "three separate time periods". That's an interesting new wrinkle!

BMD is a True Detective household (yes, we remain split on season two, but overall we're fans) so stand by for many, many more updates on this one as it works its way through production.
