New DEATH OF STALIN Trailer Finds Funny In Fascism
Quick story time: at Fantastic Fest last year, the Secret Screening was completely sold out, to the point that - by the time I got into the auditorium - I literally had to grab a folding chair from the front and set it up maybe thirty feet from the screen. In my head, I kept saying "if the title comes up and it's something you don't want to see, just bail." I'd heard rumors that the screening was possibly Eli Roth's Death Wish remake, so I was fully prepared to toss my chair at the screen on my way out.
Needless to say, when The Death of Stalin began, I sat on that uncomfortable slab of plastic and metal through the movie's entirety, laughing until my sides hurt. Armando Iannucci has seemingly done the impossible: mined a deadly, fascist dictatorship for an incredible amount of humor. It's also easily the meanest work of his career, which is certainly saying something.
Now, the green band trailer has been released for you to get a glimpse at what I'm talking about. Check it out:
Obviously, there's a moral hurdle for many folks upon approaching the picture - as Jeffrey Tambor is one of the stars, and has faced his own set of sexual misconduct allegations - so that decision is totally up to the individual. But trust me when I say this movie is dynamite, so if you do choose to watch it, I guarantee you're going to enjoy seeing Steve Buscemi and Jason Isaacs spit acid at motherfuckers.
The Death of Stalin hits theaters March 9th from IFC Films.
