As pointed out by the good folks over at The Playlist, a recent Wall Street Journal post on the success of Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle reveals that another Jumanji sequel is in the works, with Sony chief Tom Rothman aiming to have the film in theaters for the 2019 holiday season.
This is an interesting development. Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle way, way overperformed over the holidays (it's currently closing in on $800M at the worldwide box office), where it held its own against Disney's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Positioning its next sequel for the 2019 holiday season will result in a similar showdown, with Jumanji 3 going up against JJ Abrams' The Last Jedi sequel.
Who, if anyone, will return from Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle? How will the story unfold? We know nothing further at this time, but given how pleasantly surprised we were by the most recent entry in the Jumanji series, we're curious to learn more.
In the meantime: How 'bout you folks? You in for more Jumanji or what?
