So, we know the next Purge movie will be a prequel taking place on Staten Island and telling the story of the first Purge. Fucking awesome. I’m all in for that. But there is also going to be a Purge TV show taking place sometime between the first Purge and the last one we saw in Election Year. What the heck, I’m into that too. Just gimme all the Purge.
We heard back in May that the Purge TV show would “reveal to the fans what happens the other 364 days of the year and how that law affects people”. Okay, that’s less interesting, but I’m still with you, Purge. Now we’re starting to find out who will actually be in this show and have some details about their characters, some of which contradicts that quote.
First up is Gabriel Chavarria, who you may know from War for the Planet of the Apes. According to THR, Chavarria will play Miguel:
"a U.S. Marine with a hard edge and a noble mission. After receiving a cryptic letter from his little sister, he returns to town on Purge Night — prepared to face the senseless violence in the streets alone in order to protect what he loves most — his family."
See? He comes back on Purge night! I knew the Purge wouldn’t let me down.
Next up is Jessica Garza from Modern Family, Pure Genius, Six, NCIS and a bunch of other shows I don’t watch. Nevertheless, here is her character description:
Garza, meanwhile, will play Penelope, a woman who belongs to a Purge-worshipping cult. Having pledged herself to be sacrificed at the behest of their charismatic leader, Penelope’s faith is tested when she is exposed to the ghastly realities of the Purge.
And a Purge-worshipping cult too? Sign me up. I have a long way to go before I’m all purged out.
And don’t forget, the ten-episode series will be written by Purge head honcho James DeMonaco, so it’s likely to have all the anger and blunt political stuff we’ve (okay, I’ve) come to love from the series. I can’t wait to hear more.
