You’ve Gotta See This Weird-Ass Trailer For THE HUMANITY BUREAU
Back in November, we learned that Nicolas Cage had signed on to headline a new environmental, post-apocalyptic thriller by the name of The Humanity Bureau. At the time, our own Evan Saathoff described it as "a bureau that gets rid of undesirable, free-loading humans in a global warming-decimated future". Sounded pretty unremarkable, maybe, but sure. That can be a movie.
Today, we're getting our first look at the film, and it's ... well, look:
If you're anything like us, you made it :34 seconds into that clip before recoiling from your screen: was that a crudely Photoshopped image of Donald Trump? The rest of the trailer seems to be advertising another fairly standard Cage DTV "Classic" (it's got all the symptoms: the wonky CGI, the low-rent sets, the questionable supporting cast, Nic Cage looking drowsy), but then our dipshit President appears onscreen and suddenly you're trying to determine what statement this thing's trying to make. Obviously this is the film's shorthand way of telling us that the guy Cage is hunting is a dirtbag, but still: what a weird-ass thing to do.
Anyway, the good news is, we've been given much in the way of Actually Good Cage™ lately, with both Mom And Dad and the forthcoming Mandy being absolute barnburner Cage joints. By the end of this year, we may well be declaring 2018 the official beginning of a Cageaissance, but for now we're thinking maybe The Humanity Bureau won't be a part of that conversation.
Or maybe we're wrong. We'll find out when it arrives on April 6th.
