THE SOPRANOS Is Getting A Prequel Film: THE MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK

Get ready for a big one. According to Deadline, David Chase is returning to the Sopranos universe to make a prequel film called The Many Saints of Newark for New Line. I know prequels aren’t exactly the most exciting things in the world, but this seems a tad bit different.

Chase wrote the screenplay with fellow Sopranos alum Lawrence Konner. The film is supposed to take place during the 1960s Newark riots. You are welcome to go Wikipedia that.

Tony Soprano’s father Giovanni will be involved, as will Livia and Uncle Junior. Chase will produce and co-write, but won’t direct, though he will help select who does.

So celebrate, Sopranos fans! Unlike most prequels we hear about, this one has a real chance to be worthwhile. We’ll let you know more as we hear it.
