Robert Downey Jr. is going to be our next version of Doctor Dolittle in The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle (because I guess everyone forgot how fun it was to watch Eddie Murphy ham it up with talking animals).
Tony Stark himself revealed on Twitter yesterday the voice cast of this upcoming iteration of the classic kids' tale (so, I guess you could say it came straight from the horse's mouth?). Here's the flow chart for those who don't want to just read a list:
There are some odd choices here that should be fun. Rami Malek as a gorilla? Kumail Nanjiani as an ostrich? John Cena as a Japanese Polar Bear? Craig Robinson as a mouse? Maybe this won't be total torture for parents trying to pacify their kids on a Sunday afternoon.
The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle will be co-written/directed by Stephen Gaghan - yeah, the writer of Traffic and director of Syriana - which is probably the weirdest gig he's taken since showing up for one day of rewrites on Vinny Chase's fake Pablo Escobar movie. It'll hit theaters April 19th, 2019. I'd make fun of it, but people will probably say it'll save the world like they did with Paddington when it came out, so who knows what works and what doesn't anymore.
