Trailer For THE HANDMAID’S TALE Season 2 Doesn’t Promise Any Lightness

Who's coming to the mass hanging with me?

The Handmaid's Tale became an unexpected pop phenomenon with its first season, and put Hulu on the map as being purveyors of quality original content (not to mention a competitor with looming giant, Netflix). Winning a handful of Emmys and Golden Globes, the series has some massive expectations to live up to with Season 2. But beyond anything else, it's venturing into unknown territory, moving beyond its source novel and expanding the world in ways it only hinted at.

Well, if the trailer for the next collection of episodes is any indication, there isn't going to be any lightness any time soon.

Take a look:

Holy shit, I need to play catch up with Season One ASAP (well, as soon as I'm done mainlining Better Call Saul, that is). The look of this thing is incredible, with a tone that's just harrowing and oppressive. Hopefully, there's no sophomore slump that gets in the way of continued greatness from this creative team.

We'll just have to see when The Handmaid's Tale returns on April 25th.
