FX Moves Forward With A Pilot For Y: THE LAST MAN
Brian K. Vaughan's Y: The Last Man is one of the best comic series of all time, full stop. Filled with memorable characters, bonkers storylines and - perhaps most importantly - one of the greatest endings in comic book history, it's a tale that would make excellent fodder for a longform TV series.
And that's never been more true than it is now: Y: The Last Man takes place in a reality where the world's male population has been brought down to the single digits, an event that (as you can imagine) has serious repercussions for the planet and the women who remain ... as well as Yorrick, the "Last Man" of the title.
Hollywood's been trying to adapt Y: The Last Man into a movie or a TV series for years, but now it appears that someone's finally ready to step up to the plate and make it happen: according to Variety, FX has ordered a pilot for a Y: The Last Man series, and they've wrangled together a seriously talented crew of people to put it together.
Just look at the credits in this paragraph:
"Michael Green (“American Gods,” “Blade Runner 2049,” “Logan”) and Aida Mashaka Croal (“Luke Cage,” “Turn”) are set to serve as co-showrunners on the project, and will executive produce alongside Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force (“American Crime Story,” “Pose,” “The Hunger Games”) and Brian K. Vaughan. Melina Matsoukas (“Insecure,” “Master of None,” “Beyonce: Formation”) will direct the pilot and also serve as an executive producer."
That, gentle readers, is a seriously stacked deck. Next step is casting the thing well, a problem that's proven to be something of a hurdle for previous attempts at adapting the series (one hates to bring this up, but at one point we came perilously close to a Y: The Last Man movie starring Shia LaBeouf). Obviously, we'll be keeping a very close eye on this one as it moves forward, and will keep you informed as further updates roll in.
In the meantime: who would you like to see headlining a Y: The Last Man series? Not just Yorrick, either: hit the comments ection below to give us your picks for Agent 355, Dr. Mann, Beth and Alter while you're at it (I, of course, will be playing Ampersand, and that's non-negotiable).
