Sundance Favorite BLINDSPOTTING Finally Gets A Trailer

A complicated film gets a less than successful trailer.

I don’t envy anyone trying to sell Blindspotting in only two and a half minutes. The film’s narrative isn’t all that complicated, but the tonal tightrope it walks - along with its dips into reality-breaking rhymes - is a hard sell in the film itself, much less a short trailer.

Which is to say, I’m not sure this first look at Blindspotting quite works. It is also to say, I’m not sure any trailer for Blindspotting has much chance of serving the film well. Check it out and see what you think:

As you can probably tell, Blindspotting is a serious film about major real-life concerns. It’s also kind of a fun hangout movie at the same time. I commend the trailer for serving both sides of Blindspotting’s coin but also hope the pros out there find a better way to do it before the film comes out.

The film IS good, by the way. You can read my Sundance review here and Jacob’s review out of SXSW here.
