We’re only days away from Infinity War’s release (by the way, you can and should get your copy of our incredible Infinity War magazine here!) and one of the main questions people have about the film thus far is “Where the heck is Hawkeye?” The rugged archer with a heart of gold has been missing from all trailers and posters for the film, and folks have noticed.
Kevin Feige has noticed that folks have noticed and is having a little passive aggressive fun with it. The Marvel head honcho had this to say to io9 about Hawkeye’s absence from Infinity War’s marketing materials:
“I think it’s one of the best things that ever happened to Hawkeye,” Feige told io9. “We [at Marvel] love Hawkeye. There are big, big story things coming up for Hawkeye and Jeremy Renner is as strong an actor as anyone in the MCU and awesome as this character. But ‘The guy with the bow and arrow jokes’, right? There are a lot of ‘Guy with bow and arrow jokes.’ He even makes ‘Guy with a bow and arrow’ jokes in some of the movies. So I love that people go from ‘Oh, Hawkeye is just lucky to be there’ to ‘Oh where is he? He’s not there? Whats going to happen? We need Hawkeye. We want more Hawkeye.’ I love it. It’s the best.”
In other words, “Oh, NOW you like Hawkeye?”
The Russo brothers, on the other hand, are far more direct: “Audiences just need to be patient.”
It sounds like Hawkeye is one character who’s business is going to bridge Infinity War and whatever they end up calling the next one. I’m satisfied knowing he’ll be around, even as I’m tortured with anticipation to see exactly what his deal is in the film. As long as he’s there, I’m willing to take the Russos’ advice and just be patient. We’re almost there, gang!
