I spent last week in Las Vegas, at CinemaCon, where every major studio took turns hopping onto the Caesar's Palace Colosseum stage to show off their slates for the forthcoming year. Disney was one of the first out of the gate, and the trailer they showed us for Peyton Reed's Ant-Man and The Wasp was one of the best things I saw all week.
I described it thusly (I'm relying on my own post here because I don't trust my own memories after 24 hours):
"...the trailer opens with footage of Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) in Giant Man mode, riding a large truck through the streets of San Francisco like a Big Wheels cart. Characters from Ant-Man were all trotted out onscreen (including, crucially, Michael Peña's Luis), as were random shots from the film: a human-sized ant playing a drum set, a new villain who seemed capable of phasing through solid objects, Michael Douglas looking utterly baffled while sitting in an office with Luis. This sequel looks much bigger in scope than the original, and I was left with the impression that we have a very good time ahead of us with this one."
That trailer will apparently be along shortly. For now, we've got this brand-new Ant-Man and The Wasp one-sheet to gawk at.
As you can see, this is your fairly standard MCU poster, with one notable exception: this one includes frequent MVP and national treasure Walton Goggins, who'll be playing the villainous Sonny Burch in Reed's film. We don't know much about his character or how he'll end up crossing paths with Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), but we also don't care - we're getting an MCU movie with Goggins in it, and that's all that matters. That said film will also feature Michael Peña's Luis just feels like an embarrassment of riches.
Stay tuned for more on Ant-Man and The Wasp in the very near future! I'm pretty sure you folks will dig the trailer as much as I did. Movie opens on July 6th.
