The New RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 Trailer Is Eyeball-Meltingly Beautiful
The new Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer just landed.
I'm going to get the hell out of its way. It needs no introduction.
The original Red Dead Redemption is one of the greatest games ever made, full stop, and Rockstar Games' track record leads me to believe RDR 2 will be another in a long line of masterpieces. But let's set aside gameplay and narrative for a moment - this has to be the most gorgeous thing Rockstar's ever produced, right? There are shots in here that call to mind Roger Deakins' cinematography on The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford (no small feat, that!), and the motion capture work is jaw-dropping.
We know very little about RDR 2's plot, though this trailer does reveal the story takes place in the year 1899, a little over a decade before the events of the previous Red Dead title. That would seem to indicate that RDR 2 is something of a prequel, but it's not immediately clear how this game's lead character, Arthur Morgan, ties to RDR 1's John Marston (note: it's possible Morgan played some kind of role in the last one and I've forgotten; it's been some years since I played through it). In any event, we're excited to dive in.
UPDATE: A commenter below points out that Morgan and Marston were both members of Dutch's Gang. Thanks for that!
Red Dead Redemption 2 hits XBOX One and PS4 on October 26th. I will be suddenly sick with a debilitating case of (TBD) for the entirety of that week, so please plan your news needs accordingly.
