Looks Like Bill & Ted Are Both Set To FACE THE MUSIC
We've known for a little bit now that Bill & Ted Face The Music - the third entry in Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter's iconic characters' Excellent Adventure trilogy - has been in the works. Back in January, screenwriter Ed Solomon confirmed that they had a script done (that everyone involved loved), and both Keanu and Winter were interested in returning, saying:
"We have a script that we really are proud of, that we worked very hard on, that we've done many iterations of – and we did it on spec, meaning we spent years working on it because we wanted to get it right, creatively. This is not, 'Hey let's all cash-in on the Bill & Ted thing for money' – this is the opposite. This is, 'We love these characters, they've been with us for our whole lives' – Chris and me, and Alex and Keanu – and we wanted to visit them again as middle-aged men. We thought it would be really fun, and funny, and sweet."
In that same chat, Solomon also said that they had Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) directing, yet they were still having trouble obtaining financing (despite Steven Soderbergh having signed on as an executive producer).
Well, now Deadline is reporting that Reeves and Winter are 100% in as Ted “Theodore” Logan and Bill S. Preston Esq. MGM owns the rights to the franchise and will release in the U.S. under their Orion Pictures banner, while Bloom is handling international sales (and trying to find a buyer out of the Cannes Market as this is being written). That means the movie is now headed into pre-production, working off the aforementioned script penned by franchise creators Solomon and Chris Matheson. San Dimas, we hope your high school football still rules.
This is incredible news for anyone who grew up watching Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey on repeat via VHS. Start shredding some celebratory air guitar, because the boys are back.
