Well, we've been waiting on this one for a long time.
This is the first trailer for Shane Black's The Predator, Twentieth Century Fox's latest attempt to resurrect their mostly-dormant action/sci-fi franchise. The cast is sharp. The budget is generous. Black both wrote and directed the film, which is something we're definitely fans of around these parts. In short, there's every reason to believe this one will be a winner...
But see what you think about this:
So, first things first: I don't think this is the same trailer we were shown at CinemaCon a few weeks ago. It's similar to that batch of footage, but it's much shorter, and I'm seeing shots here I don't recall seeing on the first go 'round, connective tissue that's made this trailer much easier to process. Clarity: always a strong move!
And yet, I'm curious to see what kind of online reaction this footage receives. Here's a trailer for a Predator movie that probably features way more Jacob Tremblay than most people are expecting, as well as a surprisingly limited amount of actual Predator action. I'm still mostly feeling it, I suppose - I have faith in Black! - though I do wish this trailer showed off a bit more of the film's scope (my guess is, they're still tinkering away on The Predator's digital effects, and this is what they have to work with for the time being).
In case you missed it the first time around, here's the plot synopsis:
"From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black's explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe's most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
This one's been in the works for a very long time, and the wait is almost over: The Predator hits theaters on September 14th. What do you make of the footage above? You feeling it? Not so much? Sound off in the comments section below, and stay tuned for much more on The Predator as we get closer to that September release date.
