The last time The Rock and director Rawson Marshall Thurber teamed up, we got the very entertaining Central Intelligence. The pair's latest collaboration, Skyscraper, looks markedly less funny than that film, but a) that makes sense, as Skyscraper is not an action/comedy, and b) Skyscraper features The Rock climbing a goddamn construction crane into the clouds and then leaping from it onto a burning building, just like he did in that poster we all gently (and, sure, not-so-gently) roasted.
In other words, Skyscraper looks like the business.
Not sure how any of that could be unclear, but just in case, here's the official plot synopsis:
"Global icon Dwayne Johnson leads the cast of Legendary’s Skyscraper as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Sawyer, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. On assignment in China he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building...above the fire line."
This isn't hard. Either you're onboard Skyscraper's particular brand of over-the-top, action-flavored hijinks or you're not. Either you enjoy seeing The Rock defy death and repeatedly beat the odds, or you don't. We're still not tired of seeing this big lug kick ass on the big-screen, so we're feeling it and will be there when Skyscraper opens on July 13th.
