Keanu Reeves Reveals The Meaning Behind The Title JOHN WICK 3: PARABELLUM

We've got a title, and Reeves has an explanation.

In a move that sorta upsets the naming convention established by John Wick: Chapter 2, Keanu Reeves has revealed (in an exclusive exchange with that the third installment of this headshot-happy franchise will be titled John Wick 3: Parabellum.

You're probably wondering if that actually means anything, or if the makers of John Wick 3: Parabellum just wanted a cool-looking subtitle. Well, according to Reeves, it's not just for aesthetics! Asked what Parabellum refers to, the actor says:

"Prepare for war. It’s part of that famous sentence, 'Si vis pacem, para bellum,' which translates as, “If you want peace, prepare for war.”

Alright, fair enough! We'd be lying if we said we didn't miss the badass simplicity of the Chapter X naming convention, but that explanation's good enough for us. And besides, we're not really gonna care what it's called when we're back in the theater watching John Wick brutally waste one chump after another. Call it John Wick: Butterscotch Dreams, for all we care. We know what matters.

Anyway, there you have it: the new John Wick has a title, and now you've got a little piece of trivia you can lord over anyone you see it with (assuming it's someone who doesn't spend all their time reading movie blogs). Stay tuned for more on John Wick 3: Parabellum as we draw closer to the film's May 17th, 2019 release date.
