Michael Peña Takes On An Alien Invasion In The First EXTINCTION Trailer

Always bet on Peña.

Today brings us the first trailer for Extinction, a film that's had...well, not the easiest path to the screen. Following a few scheduling switcheroos, Universal sold off the title to Netflix back in February, and in the time since we've had no idea what was going on with it. Today we've learned it'll hit the streaming service on July 27th.

Let's take a look.

This looks...alright? The talent involved is certainly nothing to sniff at (in addition to the consistently excellent Michael Peña and Lizzy Caplan, you've got Hounds of Love's Ben Young in the director's chair), and lord knows we love a good alien invasion caper around these parts. But this trailer also seems to be advertising several movies we've seen before (War of The Worlds, Take Shelter and, uh, Skyline seem to be touchstones here), which is somewhat disappointing. Oh, well. Guess we'll find out on the 27th.

In the meantime, here's an official plot synopsis:

"A working class father of the future faces recurring dreams of destruction by an unknown force.  When his unwanted nightmares begin to affect his relationship with his family, he soon realizes they may be the key to a horrible reality, as a relentless alien attack begins to destroy the Earth.  As the invaders’ assault progresses, he is forced to find both the strength to protect his family and an understanding of who he truly is."

Aaaand here's the first poster:

What do you folks think? Gonna give Extinction its day in court when it arrives, or think you'll backpocket it for a hungover Sunday afternoon? Sound off in the comments below.
