John Goodman Suggests THE CONNERS Will Kill Off Roseanne

Well, that's certainly one way to do it.

Remember back in May, when Roseanne Barr said something racist on Twitter? And remember how ABC then abruptly cancelled production on Roseanne, the '90s sitcom it'd resurrected just months prior to much fanfare and financial success? And remember how, shortly thereafter, we learned that the show would actually be coming back in a Roseanne Barr-free version known as The Conners? And remember how everyone made the obvious joke of, "Heh, first episode of The Conners will be Roseanne getting killed off"?

Well, about that: in a new interview with The Times, John Goodman - in the midst of talking about the brouhaha surrounding Roseanne Barr's termination from the series - is asked what Dan Conner will be like in ABC's still-gestating spin-off, to which the actor replied:

“It’s an unknown. I guess he’ll be mopey and sad because his wife’s dead.”

Of course, no one from ABC has yet confirmed that The Conners will kill off Roseanne Conner, but that certainly sounds like the direction they're headed in, doesn't it? Surely Goodman's been privy to those creative talks, given that (in all likelihood) he'll be headlining the series, which Deadline describes thusly:

"...after a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before. This iconic family – Dan, Jackie, Darlene, Becky and D.J. – grapple with parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging and in-laws in working-class America. Through it all, the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns – with love, humor and perseverance, the family prevails."

Yes, "sudden turn of events" is probably not being used here to indicate that Roseanne Conner will suddenly vanish thanks to a divorce, or being kidnapped by extraterrestrials, or from having been forced to choose between remaining in Lanford with her family or accepting a newly-opened cabinet position within the Trump adminstration.

Hm. Wonder how they'll do it.

Anyway, this isn't officially official yet, but sounds about right to us. We'll keep you informed as further updates roll in.
