John & Steve Take The UK By Storm In First STAN & OLLIE Trailer

Well, these two great actors certainly look like Laurel & Hardy.

Look, John C. Reilly and Steve Coogan certainly look a lot like Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in the upcoming "end of the tour" biopic Stan & Ollie. Reilly especially has the aura down in his big ol' White Klump fat suit. However, there's something a little too saccharine and safe about this first trailer from the upcoming cinematic stroll down memory lane from Filth director Jon S. Baird.

Take a look for yourself:

Check out the official synopsis for Stan & Ollie here:

"The true story of Hollywood’s greatest comedy double act, Laurel and Hardy, is brought to the big screen for the first time. Starring Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly as the legendary movie icons, Stan & Ollie is the heart-warming story of what would become the pair’s triumphant farewell tour.

With their golden era long behind them, the pair embark on a variety hall tour of Britain and Ireland. Despite the pressures of a hectic schedule, and with the support of their wives Lucille (Shirley Henderson) and Ida (Nina Arianda) – a formidable double act in their own right – the pair’s love of performing, as well as for each other, endures as they secure their place in the hearts of their adoring public."

So, even though this looks, sounds, and is described as Awards Bait schlock (thus, probably meaning it is Awards Bait schlock), I still can't help but be intrigued by the notion of these two performers slipping into the skin of one of history's greatest comedic duos. Were there musical numbers, I could almost see this becoming the next Greatest Showman (but you need you a Hugh Jackman to do that type of box office).

Stan & Ollie opens in the U.K. on January 11th. No U.S. release date has been announced as of yet, but Sony Pictures Classics will distribute the movie. We'll keep you informed on that when it arrives.
