We’re Getting A New SESAME STREET Movie (And Lord Knows The World Could Use One Right About Now)

Bonus: to be directed by PORTLANDIA's Jonathan Krisel.

Look, maybe you don't watch Sesame Street. Lord knows I don't. But y'know what the world could use a bit more of right now? Sesame Street's particular brand of kindness, wonder and positivity, which is why we're hyped to hear that Portlandia's Jonathan Krisel is directing a new Sesame Street movie for Warner Bros.

The news comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter, who have no further details to share at this time.

Here's what we do know, though: in addition to directing episodes of Portlandia, Krisel also co-created Zach Galifianakis' Baskets and worked on Comedy Central's dearly-departed Kroll Show. If you're trying to convince folks like me to go see a Sesame Street movie, well, that's an excellent place to start. Krisel's a legit talent.

Readers of a certain age will recall a previous Sesame Street movie by the name of Follow That Bird, which traumatized an entire generation by imprisoning Big Bird, painting him blue and making him cry on camera. It was upsetting and, quite frankly, I'm not happy you brought it up.

Stay tuned for more on this one as further updates roll in. We're curious to see what Krisel does with this property.
