Look, while I am still very down on Star Trek: Discovery and its weird mission to be a cool show like all the other cool shows out there right now, I have to admit CBS is doing a great job getting me excited about its other upcoming Star Trek shows. A Picard series? Hell yes. An animated show? Sure, if it’s cool!
And it sounds like it’s going to be pretty cool. Today CBS All Access has announced that this weird animated project will be a show called Star Trek: Lower Decks. If that title doesn’t ring a bell for you, “Lower Decks” is a rather beloved episode of The Next Generation which focuses on all the blue-collar chumps who help run the Enterprise but never get any flashy, fun things to do.
Apparently, this show - which already has a two-season order - will focus on that level of Starfleet personnel on the fleet’s least important ship. Sounds great. The cherry on top is that the show will be developed by Rick and Morty’s Mike McMahan. Say what you will about Rick and Morty’s fanbase, that show is hilarious and filled with seriously cool sci-fi concepts.
Okay, okay. I’m into it. You win CBS All Access. Now let’s get some details going on the Picard show.
