It's November 6th. Election day.
Tensions are running high, particularly for members of the BMD staff who live in Texas, where an epic showdown is unfolding between sitting Senator Ted Cruz (R) and a charismatic up-and-comer by the name of Beto O'Rourke (D). No one in their right mind wants Cruz representing the Lone Star State in Washington, but does O'Rourke have what it takes to change a historically red state into a blue one? We certainly hope so, but we've gotten our hopes up before, and are not eager to have those hopes mercilessly dashed again.
So, first things first: today, go out and vote. Vote whether you live in Texas or Alabama or California or Alaska. Double-check that the machine you vote on hasn't mysteriously altered your picks (especially if you're in Texas, where that brand of hijinks has been going on since early voting started last week). Give your friends a lift to the nearest voting precinct, should they need one. Hell, give strangers a lift. Do what needs to be done, and then cross your fingers and hope for the best. It's about all we can do at this point.
And, hey, while you're waiting on all those votes to get tallied, maybe watch this video from last night's Colbert, wherein Triumph The Insult Comic Dog pays both O'Rourke and Cruz a visit on the campaign trail, and mercilessly mocks Ted Cruz right to his stupid face. It'll make you feel better.
Hahaha, that was fun! But seriously - get out there and vote, people.
