Taron Egerton Won’t Be Back For The Next KINGSMAN (Which Is Probably Not KINGSMAN 3)

Look, it's complicated.

Yesterday, Kingsman star Taron Egerton caused a bit of a hubbub by casually mentioning that he wouldn't be headlining the next Kingsman movie, a move that - if you didn't bother digging any deeper into Egerton's exact quote - didn't exactly sound like a vote of confidence for Matthew Vaughn's spies-and-shenanigans franchise.

But let's dig deeper. First, here's what Egerton said:

"I don’t know how hot off the press this is, and I think I’m allowed to say it, but I’m not in the next Kingsman movie."

A-ha, but...

"That doesn’t mean I won’t be in Kingsman ever again. I was with [director Matthew Vaughn] as little as a few days ago, we’re still very much in business together, but his next journey in that world doesn’t involve me."

What's going on here? Well, back in June, Empire revealed that Vaughn had a whole slew of Kingsman projects in the works, including a proper sequel to Kingsman: The Golden Circle, a Kingsman TV series, and a prequel set in the early 1900's, called Kingsman: The Great Game.

So, look, these dots aren't hard to connect: if Egerton's not in the next Kingsman movie but will appear in Kingsman 3, it's likely that the next Kingsman will be the prequel, which is slated to open next November and (according to rumor) may or may not have Brad Pitt attached in some capacity.

Now that that's settled, here's a question: do you want another Kingsman movie? Team BMD was mostly into the first film in the series, but found Kingsman: The Golden Circle to be a massive disappointment. Of course, it doesn't matter what we think - so far, this franchise has generated roughly $800M worldwide, so we're getting more Kingsman whether we like it or not - but we are curious where the BMD readership stands on this series.
