Remember all the eye-rolling we did when The LEGO Movie was first announced? It seemed like such a nakedly commercial idea, an entire film dedicated to selling toys. We scoffed and we chortled, and then we all went to see The LEGO Movie when it hit theaters and it turned out that shit was great. Lesson learned.
Now we've got The LEGO Movie 2 on the horizon, and it looks pretty damn good!
First of all, this is a definite improvement on the teaser trailer that dropped back in June. At a glance, it seems to be doing more of what we all loved about the first LEGO Movie: you've got your solid pop-culture callbacks, your cheeky jokes (a few of them at star Chris Pratt's expense!), the creatively-rendered environments that made the last movie such a delight to look at. It certainly feels like more of the same, which I suppose some viewers might take issue with, but after having such a blast with the first one I can't imagine being opposed. Hell yeah, we'll watch this movie.
Here's an offical plot synopsis, in case the above wasn't clear:
"The citizens of Bricksburg face a dangerous new threat when LEGO DUPLO invaders from outer space start to wreck everything. It's now up to Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to defeat the giant marauders and restore harmony to the LEGO universe."
What do you folks think? Feeling this trailer more than the last one? Think you'll give The LEGO Movie 2 a shot when it opens on February 8th? Sound off in the comments below, and stay tuned for more on this one as further updates roll in.
