Focus Features just dropped the first trailer for the upcoming Downton Abbey movie, and it's lovely to see the residents of Grantham House again.
Check it out:
That's a pretty standard teaser, but those who have been awaiting the return of the beloved Emmy-winning series are sure to feel the excitement the second that familiar theme kicks in!
Nearly all of the original ensemble cast will appear in the film, including Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Matthew Goode, and Maggie Smith. Directed by Michael Engler, who helmed several episodes of the series, the film will also introduce a number of new cast members played by Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, David Haig, and Tuppence Middleton.
Since the series ended in 2015 after six seasons, many have been homesick for the opulent halls of Grantham House, not to mention all that Crawley family melodrama. Lucky for us, creators Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame haven't been able to move on, either.
Focus chairman Peter Kujawski had this to say about Downton's move to the big screen when the film was first announced:
“Since the series ended, fans of ‘Downton’ have long been waiting for the Crawley family’s next chapter. We’re thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing back the world of ‘Downton’ to the big screen.”
Look for the next chapter of Downton Abbey in theaters September 20, 2019.
