Step aside, Hobbs and Shaw: there's another Fast and Furious spinoff in town, and it's got nothing to do with you fellas.
Vin Diesel, your number one source for all Vin Diesel-related news, has revealed on his Instagram that a female-driven Fast spinoff is in the works, and he's already met with three women to potentially write the script – although Vin Diesel would like to remind you that this was Vin Diesel's idea:
"As you know, there are three new spin offs that We have promised Universal... well this week we heard a pitch for the Fast female protagonist driven spinoff I created in 2017 ... Shout out to Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Welcome to the Fast FAMILY..."
As you can see, Diesel didn't quite confirm that the writers he met with have formally signed on, but he does give a "shout-out" to Lindsey Beer, Geneva Roberston-Dworet, and Nicole Perlman – three of the most notable female writers in Hollywood at the moment.
Perlman wrote earlier drafts of Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor, and has a story credit on Captain Marvel. Beer's credits include the upcoming films Chaos Walking (the Doug Liman YA joint that also counts Charlie Kaufman – of all people – as a screenwriter) and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot (yes, there's another one). Robertson-Dworet's credits include Tomb Raider and Captain Marvel. So that's a pretty killer trio! It's unclear exactly which female cast members will return for the Fast spinoff, but Michelle Rodriguez is a pretty safe bet, and I gotta assume that at least a couple of new actors will be added to the mix.
Oh, and as for Hobbs and Shaw? Vin Diesel has seen The Rock and Jason Statham's spinoff and raised them by THREE. You'll note that, according to the same Instagram post, Diesel has "promised" to deliver three Fast and Furious spinoffs to Universal. Please tell me at least one of these is a Logan-esque drama in which Diesel is now old and burnt out and working at an Olive Garden. Please.
