This morning, the following video clip began making the rounds:
Featuring Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ewan McGregor, Chris Messina and a number of other Birds of Prey cast members, this appears to be our first look at Cathy Yan's forthcoming DC film, a superheroine team-up jam that'll have Harley Quinn, Black Canary and Huntress going up against the villainous Black Mask. As you can see, the footage is labeled "See You Soon", and is the only video upload from YouTube user CheekySneakyPeeky.
Assuming it's legit (and it's almost certainly legit, unless someone had a lot of free time on their hands), this footage reveals that Yan's film will be taking some liberties with these characters...and, indeed, with the DCU aesthetic. The costumes are different, Harley's look is way toned down from how she appeared in Suicide Squad, while the electronic score and the cinematography feel almost like the work of Nicolas Winding Refn (anyone else getting Neon Demon vibes?). We're very into this, whatever this is.
We're a year away from Birds of Prey hitting theaters (it lands on Feb. 7th of next year). Expect many more updates between now and then. In the meantime: what do you make of the above? Feeling this vibe? Digging the new looks? Not so much? Sound off in the comments below, and stay tuned.
