Following Friday night's reveal of the official poster (featuring your old pal, Harold), Lionsgate has released the first two teasers for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Based on Alvin Schwartz's horror books from the ’80s and early ’90s, which featured unforgettable nightmare-inducing artwork by Stephen Gammell, the upcoming movie follows a group of young folks as they try to figure out what's behind the gruesome murders plaguing their small town.
Holy cow. The first poster had already removed much of my doubts around how Gammell's artwork might translate to a movie adaptation, but I was still a teensy bit concerned – until I saw these teasers. They are definitely not extended looks, by any means, but they do offer a sense of how that terrifying artwork has been adapted into equally nerve-rattling creature effects. Sign me up.
Produced by Guillermo del Toro and directed by André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe), Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark stars Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Dean Norris, Lorraine Toussaint, and the great Javier Botet – whose work has likely scared the pants off of you in movies like IT and The Conjuring 2.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark hits theaters on August 9th.
