Taika Waititi appeared at FX's TCA panel this afternoon to discuss the network's forthcoming series adaptation of What We Do In The Shadows (you can see the brand-new trailer here), and while running the interview gauntlet he was asked a few questions about his future with the MCU.
According to Deadline, Waititi - whose Thor: Ragnarok remains one of the all-around best MCU films - said "I want to do another movie with them,” but also says he wouldn't be interested in sliding into the director's chair for Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3:
"For me, those are James (Gunn)’s films. Going into something like that with his stamp all over his films, would be like going into someone’s house and saying ‘Hey, I’m your new dad, and this is how we make peanut butter sandwiches now. It feels kind of awkward.”
As we speak, Waititi's finishing up work on Fox Searchlight's WWII comedy, Jojo Rabbit, the stop-motion animated Bubbles, for Netflix, and recently wrapped work on an episode of Disney+'s Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. The dude's in high demand, in other words, and probably has his pick of the litter in terms of what projects he takes on...which makes it particularly intriguing to hear he's interested in returning to the MCU.
We know it's not gonna be Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3, but if you could see Waititi direct one more Marvel movie, which would it be? Another installment in an already-running series? A new character entirely? Do you simply wanna see the dude direct another Thor? There are no wrong answers. Please leave yours in the comments below.
