About, I dunno, four years ago, Netflix released part one of the fifth season of Arrested Development amid lots of controversy and gaffes in the press. But hey, there were probably lessoned learned from the show’s weird fourth season, and maybe there was a chance the show would rebound with a season (sorry, half season) good enough to help us ignore behind the scenes shenanigans.
I don’t think that happened. In fact, my memory is that I - someone who watched season four a whopping four times out of sheer optimism that there was hidden value there - never finished watching it. What I did see receded from memory along with the fact that even more was eventually on the way.
And now that promised day is arriving. The end of Arrested Development’s fifth season will hit Netflix March 15. Here is a trailer to prove it:
I look at all these reminders of plot lines and incidents from seasons four and five-and-a-half and just don’t have any energy to see them play out any further. Perhaps that won’t be the case with you, but for me this show has run its course. I’m out.
