Well, they've been teasing this drop for a week, and today it finally happened: A24 just dropped the first trailer for Ari Aster's Midsommar on us.
Let's take a look.
Details on Midsommar have been pretty sparse, and this trailer doesn't do much to elaborate on them: we know it concerns a young woman (Florence Pugh) traveling to a remote Swedish town for some sort of festival that only takes place every 90 years. Judging by what we're seeing here, that festival's probably not gonna turn out well for anyone in attendance.
This is Ari Aster's follow-up to Hereditary, the itsy-bitsy horror movie that earned rave reviews and nearly $80M at the worldwide box office (it also should've earned Toni Collette an Oscar nomination, but whatcanyado?). As such, the hype surrounding this one is strong: will Aster pull off a one-two punch, or prove himself to be something of a one-trick pony? We'll find out when Midsommar hits theaters on August 9th.
Stay tuned for further updates as they roll in. In the meantime: what do you make of the above? Digging the Wicker Man vibes? Not so much? Sound off in the comments below.
